![]() If not, feel free to skip to the next chapter! If you’re interested in the code behind what’s happening when the additional image sizes are created then this section of the article is for you. The rest of the images that were generated are a result of some WordPress core files and the Twenty Twenty theme’s code. So, that is why for example the ‘Medium size’ is 300×169 instead of 300×300. The ‘Medium size’ and ‘Large size’ have been resized in a manner that avoids changing the actual proportions of the image. Having uploaded this image via the WordPress Media Library we can connect to our site using an FTP client and, if we head to the Upload folder, we’ll see that multiple versions of our images have been created. It is 294KB in size and measures 2089×1175 pixels and we are going to do this with the default WordPress Twenty Twenty theme active (other themes may alter how images are handled by WordPress). For the purposes of this example we are going to upload an image with the name ‘post1-feature-image’. Let’s run through an example so you can see exactly what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ when you upload an image to WordPress. Examining WordPress Image Sizes in More Detail This is done so the image used both a) looks good and b) loads quickly. These sizes along with additional sizes we will later look at are used by WordPress in various positions in the frontend layout. These are ‘Thumbnail size’, ‘Medium size’ and ‘Large size’ with dimensions of 150×150 pixels, 300×300 pixels (maximum) and 1024×1024 pixels (maximum) respectively. Finally it will also store a ‘Full size’ image which is the original size of the uploaded image. It does this by creating 3 different image sizes each time you upload an image to the WordPress Media Library. WordPress tries to strike a balance by serving up the optimal image size depending on the location of the image.

![]() In this section, we will set up the PostgreSQL database and Jupyter Notebook in a Docker container. Then, we will set up Apache Airflow (a fancy cron-like scheduler). First, we will set up our Jupyter Notebook and PostgreSQL database. Let’s start by setting up our environment. This assumes that we have an existing PostgreSQL database running in a Docker container. Using Python and Pandas, we will extract the data from a public repository and upload the raw data to a PostgreSQL database. The Walk-throughīefore we can do any transformation, we need to extract the data from a public repository. The DAG will be used to run the ETL pipeline in Airflow. We will need to extract the data from a public repository (for this post I went ahead and uploaded the data to and transform it into a format that can be used by ML algorithms (not part of this post), thereafter we will load both raw and transformed data into a PostgreSQL database running in a Docker container, then create a DAG that will run an ETL pipeline periodically. This dataset contains Wine Quality information and it is a result of chemical analysis of various wines grown in Portugal. The Howįor this post, we will be using the data from UC-Irvine machine learning recognition datasets. In this post, I will focus on how one can tediously build an ETL using Python, Docker, PostgreSQL and Airflow tools. There are a lot of different tools and frameworks that are used to build ETL pipelines. ETL pipelines are available to combat this by automating data collection and transformation so that analysts can use them for business insights. However, most of it is squandered because it is difficult to interpret due to it being tangled. With smart devices, online communities, and E-Commerce, there is an abundance of raw, unfiltered data in today’s industry. Data is fast to load into another program. One solution would be to have a program clean and transform this data so that: However, this data is unclean, missing information, and inconsistent as with most data. One might begin to wonder, Why do we need an ETL pipeline?Īssume we had a set of data that we wanted to use. According to Wikipedia:ĮTL is the general procedure of copying data from one or more sources into a destination system that represents the data differently from the source(s) or in a different context than the source(s).ĭata extraction involves extracting data from (one or more) homogeneous or heterogeneous sources data transformation processes data by data cleaning and transforming it into a proper storage format/structure for the purposes of querying and analysis finally, data loading describes the insertion of data into the final target database such as an operational data store, a data mart, data lake or a data warehouse. One of the foundational layers when it comes to Machine Learning is ETL(Extract, Transform and Load). You will need to sit down comfortably for this one, it will not be a quick read.īefore we get started, let’s take a look at what ETL is and why it is important. This post will detail how to build an ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) using Python, Docker, PostgreSQL and Airflow. I will start with the basics of the ML stack and then move on to the more advanced topics. In this post, I want to share some insights about the foundational layers of the ML stack. ![]() How To Build An ETL Using Python, Docker, PostgreSQL And Airflowĭuring the past few years, I have developed an interest in Machine Learning but never wrote much about the topic. Like the smaller Ember Mug the Ember Travel Mug 2 also had a price lift and became more expensive than the original. No white is available and I'm not sure if they plan to release it in the future. The original Ember Travel Mug came in both black and white but the new Ember Travel Mug 2 currently only comes in black. Once you pick up the Ember Travel Mug it will detect that motion and turn itself back on. This saves on battery life but also stops the battery from overheating. When there is no liquid in the cup or when the cup has been sitting idle without being touched or picked up for over 2 hours it'll turn itself off and enter into a sleep mode where it stops heating your beverage. The new Ember Travel Mug 2 now has an auto sleep feature. It can now keep your drink warm for 3 hours instead of the original 2 hours of the first generation Ember Travel Mug. Just like the smaller 10 oz Ember Mug the Travel Mug has also seen an upgrade to it's battery life by 50%. They also hide themselves away when not in use just like the temperature numbers do so it won't be constantly showing. The old style turn dial was cool and intuitive but the plus and minus buttons are just as easy to use. This does away with the older style turn dial that they used to have at the base of the cup.Įmber hasn't said why they made this change but less moving parts likely means less chance of breaking, more waterproofing and an overall more reliable mug. The new Ember Travel Mug 2 now features PLUS + and MINUS – buttons on the front of the cup that you can use to manually adjust the temperature of your beverage. Here are the biggest changes made in the Ember Travel Mug Touch Buttons Replace Turn Dial The Ember Travel Mug arguably had a bigger change from version 1 to version 2 and unlike the smaller Ember Mug you can actually tell a version 1 from version 2 just by looking at it. The original Ember Mug only came in black and white but the new version also comes in copper.Īt the time of writing it's sold out and I'm not sure if it was a limited edition or if they plan on making more. (or compare to the price of the Ember Mug 1 at Amazon) Now Available In “Copper” See the latest price of the Ember Mug 2 at Amazon At the time of writing the newer Ember Mug had a 5% discount on Amazon so maybe you can get it cheaper sometimes. You can still get the original Ember Mug 1 for the cheaper price on Amazon, but stocks are running low and it likely won't last for long. It was already a really expensive coffee mug and to be completely honest how many people would have bought it for $80 but not for $100? Probably not many. Now the Ember Mug 2 retails for around $99, or $20 more than the original design. While the cup is no longer available for sale on Ember's website there are multiple reviews online dating back to 2017/2018 talking about “The $80 Coffee Mug”. The Ember Mug 1 launched with a price of around $80. It just means that it'll take up a little less room on your desk which is good for those who have limited space. ![]() Rather than having an overhanding plastic top they have culled this back so the top of the coaster is more flush with the body of the coaster. This isn't a change to the cup itself but rather the charging coaster has been streamlined and made smaller so it more easily fits on your desk. Smaller Charging Coaster Original Ember Mug 1 Charging Coaster New Ember Mug 2 Charging Coaster This makes it easier to wash and means you don't have to stress about it getting wet when washing it or if you happen to spill your coffee. I couldn't find the specs of the original Ember Mug 1 and whether or not it was water proof.īut the Ember Mug 2 now has an IPX7 rating which means it can be submerged 1 meter (3.3 feet) in water for up to 30 minutes without any damage. It's not a gigantic change but it gives you an extra half an hour to drink your coffee while in a meeting or while on the go and often that's all you really need. Instead of just 1 hour of battery life you get 1.5 hours (or 80 minutes on the 40 oz size). The new Ember Mug 2 has an improved battery life by up to 50%. Instead what has changed is the internals and how well it performs. So much so that if you put the 2 cups side-by-side next to each other you couldn't tell the difference just by looking at them. Ember Mug 1 vs 2: What's Changedįrom the outside the Ember Mug 1 looks exactly the same as the Ember Mug 2. "Cover You in Oil" features a typically licentious lyric ("I see a young girl in the neighbourhood.I must confess I'd like to run my hands up and down her legs."). In the video, which is reminiscent of the Mallet-directed "Thunderstruck" from 1990, lead guitarist Angus Young is seen playing his Gibson SG on a wrecking ball, which destroys a building. "Burnin' Alive" was written about the cult followers in Waco, Texas, who were burnt to death in 1993 during a raid by the authorities, while " Hard as a Rock," the album's first single, dated back to the Who Made Who sessions The music video for "Hard as a Rock" was directed by David Mallet and was set at the Bray Studios in Windsor, Berkshire. ![]() Marvel Comics contributed to Ballbreaker's cover art. In a 1995 interview with Guitar World, Young played down the tension between him and Rubin, although he did admit to Le Monde in October 2000, "Working with him was a mistake." Mike Fraser was also credited for recording, engineering and mixing the album. Although the band was immediately satisfied with the Ocean Way Studios, Rubin and Malcolm Young clashed over the album's direction, with Rubin demanding as many as 50 retakes on some songs, and rumours persist that Rubin was often absent from the studio and left the band to their own devices while he reportedly saw to the recording of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' One Hot Minute album at the same time. Getting the right drum sound at the Record Plant had proved impossible, with Rubin even isolating the drums in a tent in the studio and lining the walls and ceiling with material to soak up the extra sound the room generated. Production started at the Record Plant Studios in New York City, but the band became dissatisfied with the sound there and moved to Los Angeles' Ocean Way Studios. The song was a hit, becoming Billboard's #1 rock track and hit #5 on the Canadian charts. ![]() Rubin's first assignment with AC/DC had been " Big Gun," which appeared on the soundtrack for the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Last Action Hero. Literally, as he was mixing he was getting a guitar sound on the Cult and then comparing it directly with the guitar sound that he wanted to get from Back in Black. Rick Rubin was recording the Cult in Studio A and we stood in the airlock just outside the studio. Rubin had been a long-time fan of the band former AC/DC engineer Tony Platt recalls overhearing the producer working with the Cult on their 1987 LP Electric: Slade would eventually rejoin the band for their performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony and the 2015 Rock or Bust World Tour following Rudd's legal issues involving illegal drug possession and threatening to kill his former personal assistant, both of which forced him out of the band a second time.īallbreaker is also significant for being the only AC/DC album produced by Rick Rubin. Slade told Rock Hard France in June 2001 that he was so disappointed and disgusted that he did not touch his drum kit for three years. Durieux reports that the band eventually invited Rudd to rejoin and he accepted in August 1994, much to the chagrin of Slade, who had been recording demos with the band in London. According to Arnaud Durieux's book AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll, Rudd attended AC/DC's show in Auckland in November 1991 and, after a friendly meeting with the band backstage, made an "open-ended pitch" to rejoin if anything changed with the band's current drummer Chris Slade. There is a common ground which allows a good hybridization, and the result is great!”Īrnaud Chemin is a young emergent French type designer. The Grotesk construction is directly inherited from Clarendon, which itself is inherited from the Didot-style typefaces. Arnaud Chemin describes them, noting that “there was an interesting aspect in combining these different styles. Last but not least, Didot Modern benefits from a broad stylistic set, which contains alternate characters (A R Q V W a f g j r t v w y) based on the aesthetic of Grotesk typefaces. It is an experiment on modernizing high contrast letterforms, giving them a more mechanical look.” I followed the same path Imre Reiner took almost a hundred years ago to design the Corvinus typeface. ![]() They belong to the past and no longer reflect our contemporary environment. Traditional flourishes such as the teardrop endings looked too baroque. Arnaud Chemin explains: “By removing the mannerist aspects of some details, the letterforms gained in simplicity. However, Didot Modern is not just a melt of history. While the black styles were inspired by the normande style, like Figgins’s French gros canons. The design of the regular cuts is based on various examples: Nicolas Pierre Gando’s imitations of Didot, Ludwig & Mayer’s Didone and Jules Didot trois et demi. It blends original drawings from different historical sources. The typeface is a tribute to the Didot archetype. Its emphasis lies on the overall digital feeling the typeface conveys. It is distinct and unique enough to stand apart from other Didot-style typefaces such as Bodoni, Scotch Roman, Baskerville, or Walbaum. It is also well designed to enhance corporate and advertising projects. Through its expressivity, the typeface is tailor-made to convey products with a sense of high aesthetic value, such as in luxury branding. With its delicate thin strokes and precise details, it reveals its beauty, especially in large sizes. Many new homeowners are also opting for eco-friendly added benefits such as a bidet to increase good hygiene practices and decrease paper waste.
